Happy Arbor Day

Happy Arbor day to all of the trees in my garden. I have the privilege of living on a property with at least 50 trees, which makes it a little forest.

It is amazing that people in Johannesburg have created the largest urban man made forest in the world. The interesting thing is that the natural eco-systems is semi-arid which would only support scrub. Scrub can be seen as dry patches of grass and small thorn trees.
The best part is that we have birds that are attracted to our man made forest. Some of them even stay for the winter as we have a very mild one.

Have a good one

Happy Birthday Shakespeare

Happy birthday Willy Shakespeare and sadly too, happy death day. So Shakespeare was born on the 23rd of April 1564 and 52 years later died on the same date. That is what happens when you party like there is tomorrow, sometimes there isn't.

We all have so many idioms to thank Shakespeare for as well as all of the plays and poems that we had to endure throughout our school years. I was always sure that he was in my various English classes he would have scoffed as to the purported meaning of his imagery. As for his plays well he would have been a writer of television if he was born in this era. As it was we all have to that his stage prompter for actually writing down the lines for us to be terrorised with all these years later.

Though if you think of it he would have got into hot water in today's mores, what with him having two lovers killing themselves and they being only 13. Schools these days seem to be doing everything within their power in keeping our teenagers happy and well adjusted. As for Taming of the shrew, well that taught all us maidens that a chauvinistic pig was the way to go to find true happiness. It is surprising that a few of these books have not been deemed inappropriate. Poor Darwin is out, but Shakespeare will endure. I wonder if it is due to the fact that people often confuse words within Hamlet to be actual scripture teachings.

So with this bit of wisdom I will wish you a good one.

Happy Earthday

So wishing the Earth a huge happy Earth day.

May she have an amazing time and stop with all the Earthquakes and Volcanoes.
As all the little red rings show, she is obviously throwing a party for her day. Good luck to all the humans in the areas where the parties are happening.

Have a good one!

One corner to go

One last block to do and it is a doozy. The last corner took me forever to do as did all of the stars within stars. Well here goes, the last one. I don't know whether to be happy or just a little bit sad having come to the end of the blocks. Each one was a fun experience with the doldrums of finishing off a quilt not happening as quickly as most other quilts. Let's see if I can make the last block faster than the previous one took me.

The weather here is freezing so it is good to have something fun to do and stay warm.

Have a good one!

Dear Jane progress - Triangles done

Yay yay the triangles are done.  The triangles started on the 21st of January and finished on the 12th of April, they took me 81 days to do which works out about right as it took about 2 days per triangle.
I added quite a few butterfly and other pretty fabrics. The in-between fabric is a Kona solids in the various colours.

Next I will be doing the corners and then the long process of getting rid of all the pieces of paper and adding the sashing. I decided agains inter-gap coloured blocks as the quilt is quite bright as is.

Be calm and sparkle on

I thought this was very cute

Dear Jane progressing

Wow can you believe it, I have only two triangles to go. Then the corners and that means all of the blocks are done. The easter weekend sure gave a boost to finishing the triangles. I have enjoyed making the triangles even though they took a lot long seeing as each piece needed to go in the correct place as they have been designed to take into account the sloping edges. I also used the coloured triangles that will be going inbetween the pieced ones when i scanned them in so that I could see what the end product would look like.

I am now pondering on the sashing as this will be the next step in the creation of my Dear Jane. I have decided on the same white as used within the quilt, but still have a question for the little blocks created at the intersection of the sashing blocks.  I found two pictures showing what I mean.
The current ponderings is what would it look like with a multi-colored raindow of little blocks inbetween. I will have to use a spreadsheet and try out this idea. I don't suppose I need the extra colour, but, I will think upon this.

Have a good one.

April is here

So a quarter of the year has slipped by. Autumn seems to have come to the garden with the leaves deciding it is time to do their final swan song before falling to the ground. It has started to be cooler which is a great thing. It seems that we are now waking before the next door neighbours chickens as well as all the little birds that live in our garden. The sun is off to it's northern vacation. Hope spring comes to the north as the news shows horrid temperatures still.

The counter is at 2161 which is an amazing number and still only 2 comments *Sigh*.

I read this morning that You Tube was shutting down and no longer accepting videos. It will be re-opening again in 2023.
The I tried Goggling and google crashed. Who boy maybe the internet is broken.

Happy April fool portion of the post. :D

Easter has been a fun time off work, though any time spent at home is always amazing. My contract has just come to an end and my new contract is only for three months. This is the problem with working for a company that is mostly owned by an overseas company, the bad economy bites everyone. Life will happen and this is one of those things that I have no control over, so hey, what is the use of fretting.

I have been working diligently on Dear Jane's Triangle and only have the blue triangle and the Kites to go. Having finish 213 of the 225 blocks, I am now 95% finished with creating the blocks that make up the quilt. Hopefully this month I can finish off the remaining blocks and then start with the sashing of all of the blocks.

Hope everyone had a grand Easter and enjoys April.

Have a good one.
