Oops missed towel day

Well that was a bit oopsie, imagine missing Towel day. I loved the way that Douglas Adams expressed himself. Though the human was a bit of  an idiot, all of the others met along the way were amazing. I really loved the depressed robot.

So here is to you Mr Adams and I hope you are enjoying the universe in the here after. Imagine, he now knows what the question is. I wonder if they serve Pangalactic Gargle Blasters in writers heaven.

If you don't know what I am talking about read the five books that make up the trilogy of the The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Have a good one!

Dear Jane progress - to the purple line

Managed to get the purple blocks wearing their white sashes and the hook them up to be part of the quilt. With the Purple row done it gets to 23.66% of the centre done. Now on to the blue blocks.

Hope you have a good week.

Happy Mothers day

Happy Mothers day to all the mummies out there. May your offspring fill your heart with happiness. Each child is different as is each mother. The hope is that we can be mothers with kindness and face the needs of our children with grace.

One of my favourite poems which I try to remember when being a mother is:

On Children
 Kahlil Gibran
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.

You may strive to be like them,
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might
that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.
So have a lovely mothers day and also think with kindness of your own mother, here and in the hereafter.

Have a good one!

Dear Jane progress report

The progress is slow but sure.
I have put the sashing around the first three colours in the corners.

This is the sequence in which I created them in the first place and it make logical sense to me to do the sashing in the same way.

I redid B1 as it had worked out too small and I redid the round bit on E5 as it way way too square. This has slowed my progress a bit as has the weather.

I am now doing the purples and it is always lovely to see the blocks once I remove the paper.

Have a good one

Autumn in our Kitchen courtyard

These are some of the plant outside our kitchen in the middle of autumn or if you think the winter solstice is the middle of winter then at the start of winter.
The bird bath with a loquat adding a bit of privacy.
A clivia looking artistic in it's cracked pot.
The kitchen window with clivias grwn from seed underneath.
The lemon tree with little green lemons.
One of the three moon plants/trees that I grew from seed. One of the trees is now flowering and the other many take another year or 2.

 Plecthantris or money plant.
Philodendron walking across the patio.

I hope everyone is enjoying May.

Have a good one!

may the force be with you 2013

As is the tradition; May you have an amazing 4th of May.

And whilst being cool about number the number of people who have looked at this stuff also reached a cute number.

Have a good one.

Happy May day

Happy May day.
To all the people in the northern hemisphere, I hope the weather is living up to ye olde holiday for being the start of summer. I hope that all of your plants are flowering as they should. I hope that you have a faire or something fun to go to .

Here in the Southern hemisphere it is becoming nippy! We have changed from using a quilt with cotton batting to one that has  wool batting. It is amazing how the different battings do provide different levels of insulation.

The trees are all sporting yellow and orange and are looking beautiful. I love the way that nature sparkles especially brightly just before the horrors of winter, where nothing is green and everything is brown and sandy. I think this is why I really do not like to include brown in my quilts. I know it is deep and meaningful to use lower toned colours, but it just looks like winter to me.

If you are a worker then happy union May day. Hopefully on this May day there can be more jobs for more people.  I only have 60 more days before my contract comes to an end, and then after seven years of dedication, some little person up the corporate ladder wants my job to be done in India.
Being a contractor means that there are very few rules protecting us. Working in Africa there are even fewer rules that make any sense. Life will happen. I used to think that life happened as it should, but, as I have got older I realise that sometime life just happens.

Here is such a cute picture of a pencil pusher. I wonder how this artist would have interpreted a bean counter or little grey people.
Onto a nicer topic. Here are all of my blocks and triangles all spread out. I love the colours that come shining through.

I have started doing the sashing. Phew but it is a lot more intense than I thought it would be.
After having added the borders to B1 it showed that this block was too small, so I had to redo it. I chose a vibrant orange, so I think it looks great. I am once again sewing up the quilt in the same sequence that I created them. It makes sense to me and that in life is all that we can hope for.

Hope everyone has an amazing May and that creativity wins.

Have a good one.
