Q7 Irish chain

Q7 is an Irish chain quilt. I got every colour in a range of fabrics and created my Irish chain. The quilt took such a long time to make as there was a 2 month pause in the middle when we painted the house and then again when I made Manie his birthday quilt. I hand stitched each pice and then hand quilted the whole quilt.I used a wool batting and it has really made the qult soft and warm.  I love the brightness of this quilt.

The dates were as follows:     Design start date     - 1st of April 2011
                               Piecing start date    - 1st July 2011
                               Top completed date    - 4th March 2012

                               approximate time      - 9 months with spending at least 3 hours a day stitching so that would be approximately 830 hours hand stitching.

Making a square into a triangle

This is the stencil that I am currently using for the inside squares on my Irish chain. I like it cos it has cute hearts on the inside of it. The only problem now is the along the outside edge of my quilt I have made the various stripes end off in pointed bits so in between each of these pointy bits are triangles. I could have just crosshatched the bits,but, then it would have lost it's interestingness. So what I am going to try to do is take this square stencil and draw it with many more points so that it fills up the triangle. Well hopefully I get to it this weekend which would mean that I have finished off making little blocks all up and down the quilt.

Q7 Irish chain

This is quilt in a bag, this is achieved by dilligently covering pieces of paper with material and then sewing them together. To get the best results make sure that all of the blocks that you sew together are all of the same size so that they look like a nice stack of pretty colour.

This is what it looks like when it spills out of the bag. In the picture you can see the empty bag. The cat named spiley. The pattern, Pinwheels for the back of the quilt and various bits of the quilt.

 The cat giving his 2 cents worth about the colours chosen and the quilt so far. I think his biggest concern is not knowing which will be on his corner of the bed and whether all the colours actually go with his hair colour. Oh my it is a tough world for a ginge.

 Oh my gosh... Spike realizes he is gorgeous and his concerns were not needed. This is his best coy act.

So this is where it stand as at the beginning of 2012. I had better hurry seeing as we are being theatened with the end of the world in 335 days. I we are going back to the stone ages then yay for being able to create bedding. Though being able to grow food would make Spikey a whole lot happier.
